The Shady Side of South Branch
Having grown up in a small midwestern town, I know that the townsfolk in these places are just as offbeat as those in the big cities, although they often attempt (usually unsuccessfully) to keep their unusual desires secret. Since Tilly and Elmer, while fun-loving and lusty, are not likely to do anything WILDLY X rated, I thought it would be fun to follow some of their more licentious South Branch neighbors around for a while and surreptitiously report on their debauchery. And, I must say, they've made me blush on more than one occasion! Still, I agreed to write all this down and the result is The Shady Side of South Branch.
I was invited to read one of the Shady Side short stories at the 2019 Seattle Erotic Art Festival! The Domino Effect, is a shocking scene of five friends, um, "enjoying one another's company", and this story is included in the Seattle Erotic Art Festival Literary Art Anthology 2019! The Party Girls of Hardwood Pointe
Hardwood Pointe is a tidy retirement community at the edge of South Branch. Most of the residents are retired, but they are definitely not out to pasture. Their retired status gives them time to think about, and try to make up for, all the sexual intrigue they missed during their younger days due to the need to waste time working. Most of these residents are single women, and although there are never quite enough men available to satisfy all their desires, they find ways to make do. This collection of coquettes has cast aside decades of useless propriety; now they’re ready to break the old rules whenever necessary to satisfy their desire for delightful dalliance. These women are pleasantly uninhibited, amusingly immodest, and shockingly spicy!

Upstairs at Claire’s
Women of all ages share their stories and selected secrets at “Claire’s Hair Affair,” the preferred beauty shop in South Branch, secure in the expectation that even though Claire knows all the secrets, she’ll be discreet about retelling them. Claire is a widow in her mid-fifties, a sweetheart in every way, although prone to loneliness from time to time.
She lives in an apartment above the salon and to supplement her income from the business, she rents out, or sometimes provides as a free community service, a spare bedroom upstairs to selected citizens of South Branch who are in need of a short-term setting for furtive, fleshly frolics. Claire’s office shares a porous partition with the “loving room” and she sometimes settles in on the office sofa and imagines she’s involved in the proceedings, remembers the pleasures of her youth, or subsequently provides a shoulder to cry on for those clients whose partners are imperfect. Of course, Claire has opportunities to make use of this hideaway herself from time to time, and even she’s surprised at some of the good luck she’s had there!

Sue and Bobby
Sue and Bobby comprise the cutest young couple in South Branch. Bobby is a college student in St. Louis and Sue has just graduated from South Branch High and is living at home with her prudish and overprotective parents. She spends her days working at “Elite-za Pizza” and her nights dreaming of Bobby, who makes it home to see her on occasional weekends. Naturally their primary desire on these weekends is to physically express their love for each other. This creates a problem inasmuch as neither of their parents will allow them to sleep together at home until they are married. This requires some imagination on the part of our cute and enthusiastic lovers, and they find many opportunities to exercise their expanding ideas about ways to surprise and delight each other, often with experiments that would horrify their parents. Sometimes the venues they find and the techniques they invent are a little unfortunate, but they are always thrilled to be together and nothing can go far enough wrong to cause any regret.

The Junkyard Cats
Hank and Bridget are the ringmasters of a random gathering of the rowdiest riffraff in South Branch! They live in a damaged camping trailer in the back of “Johnny’s Genuine Junkyard” where Johnny hires them to keep an eye on the place when no one else is around. Hank and Bridget spend their time turning old cars and other vehicles into cozy or semipublic places for sex. They’re joined most evenings at “Camp Canoodle” by a rag-tag mix of miscellaneous men and women who love just about any kind of sexual excess – this crowd goes by the nickname of “Junkyard Cats”. As long as everyone agrees, the cats are invited to join in the fun, watch, or go off by themselves to a slightly more private vehicular venue nearby. A good time is had by all, especially when Bridget livens up the spirit around the “Mess Haul Bar” by mixing up a tub of “Scrapyard Crap” the recipe for which is a closely guarded secret!

Rosalie’s Palm
Rosalie’s husband, when he was alive, opened a bar in South Branch and jokingly named it the “Rosie Palm” as a tribute both to his wife Rosalie and the slang term for the lover of last resort of unattached men. After his unfortunate demise, Rosalie took over and made a small name change to make the place more acceptable in polite society.
Rosie has a sympathetic affection for a few of her customers, lonely, unattached men who she occasionally takes home with her after closing time and, momentarily at least cures both their loneliness and hers. Rosie, however, usually counts on Pete, who delivers her weekly supply of beer every Friday afternoon, to take care of her recurring need for affection. Meanwhile her weekend waitress, May, aspires in vain to learn the ways of the world from Pete’s sidekick, Lonnie.

Goode Grief
Meet the most unrepentant sinner in South Branch – Reverend Orville Manson Goode. The Reverend maintains a lofty and respectable position as the pastor of the “Salivation [sic] Station,” a shamelessly sanctimonious church on a side street in South Branch.
The good reverend Goode is obsessed with the “sin” of enjoying sexual pleasure, no matter what form it takes. The reverend considers nearly any sexual act abominable, apart from a rare and brief coupling in the missionary position with one’s spouse of the opposite sex and same race. Even this is suspect unless it is for the purpose of attempted procreation or renewing the intimacy of the couple’s marriage commitment. Attempts to prevent pregnancy during this intimacy are frowned upon, since that might indicate the couple was having sexual relations “just for fun”!
Not surprisingly, however, the reverend’s obsessive personal habits would not pass muster with his prolific priggish pronouncements.

Rich and Raven
Rich is a 58-year-old farmer who inherited a fortune and left his straitlaced former spouse to marry Raven, a shapely, black-haired girl from back east who is fond of just about every variety of sex imaginable. This fits right into Rich’s plan, although he isn’t fully able to keep up with her. Fortunately, Rich knows how to keep Raven, and himself, happy. This sometimes includes, among other things, watching her have rough sex with other men, especially Bruno, who conveniently makes a delivery to the R&R Ranch every other Saturday. This gives him, and frequently Bruno’s girlfriend Tammy Elizabeth (Tizzy), the evening free for a Saturday night free-for-all frolic among the three or foursome on the grounds, or inside the lavish ranch house set well back from the public road north of South Branch.
